Fallen planes WWII at Herselt
A 33 km bike ride takes you past the crash sites of five planes downed during World War II in Herselt. The most famous and feared German pilot was Heinz-Wolfgang Schnaufer who operated from Brustem base and single-handedly shot down 121 bombers. As a result, many Allied aircraft crashed in the provinces of Antwerp and Flemish Brabant, five of them also in our municipality of Herselt. With this tour, discover the locations where to this day we still remember the deceased crew members and where we still find debris from Spitfires, a Halifax bomber, a Lancaster bomber and a Liberator bomber.
