Pootefretters Tour in Haasrode

The Pootefretters Tour in Haasrode: from a hamlet of Bierbeek to a borough of Oud-Heverlee today.
From as early as the Middle Ages, this place at the edge of the woods - for that is ultimately the meaning of 'Haasrode' - exerted an attraction on hermits and pilgrims, even from France. The latter descended to this site to consult the miraculous statue of Mary (1470).
The present Church of Our Lady and its presbytery are a unique example of Brabant neo-Gothic architecture by Pieter Langerock, a pupil of Joris Helleputte. The project was made possible by Duchess Eleonora van Arenberg.
Both World Wars also left traces in this distinctive piece of Flemish Brabant.
Curious about the meaning of 'Pootefretters'? Come discover this remarkable heritage site and enjoy not only the many special chapels but also immerse yourself in the local 'giant history' with its accompanying parades.
