Veurne for everyone
Campus Engineering Veurne worked for several years on a project 'STEAM up for an inclusive Veurne' in cooperation with the province of West Flanders to create an inclusive walk through Veurne. Thanks to the erasmus project 'How special are your needs, can we help? a similar walk was realized in five cities in five other countries.
Currently on this walk you will find about 12 videos with images, spoken text and subtitles but also with sign language. The walk is about 2.3 km long. There are tactile models on the walk or near the walk. We made feeler models of part of the market, the Saint Nicholas Tower, the pump on the market and the former Vauban fortress. On the trail you will also find two games : a sliding puzzle and a nerve spiral.
The trail has been made more wheelchair friendly. Here and there adjustments have been made to the sidewalk height or an obstacle has been removed. If you experience any points of improvement while walking, feel free to give us a call.
Finally, we also tried to make the walk accessible for blind people with the help of two vibrating bracelets. If you want to try this out, feel free to give us a call at lut.hoornaert@talent-is.be or filip.robyn@talent-is.be.
