Fed by the two Neten, Dijle, Demer and Rupel, this region has always proved to be fertile ground.
This river land with its clay and loam soils is and was ideal for horticulture.
And with the proximity of large cities such as Antwerp, Mechelen and Brussels, quick sales were assured.

Farmer Achiel and Abbis Agnes take you through centuries of horticulture and market gardening.
Along historical farms and peasant superstition, over the imperial gardens of Charlemagne and Louis the Fourteenth, to the pioneers of the Mechelen vegetable growing region.
