Heritage walk Eppegem

In addition to some historically important buildings and lands, this walk takes you to the many castles that dot Eppegem. Eppegem was historically located on the border of the area governed by the lords of Grimbergen, the Berthouts. This border was formed by the river Zenne where, in the 11th and 12th centuries, the lords of Grimbergen built many watchtowers or mottes to protect their domain from the dukes of Brabant. These towers were later expanded into castle farms and sometimes real castle estates, which are still today included in a beautiful natural setting. This fascinating walk ends at the church, situated on the bank of the Zenne along the old Roman road from Asse to Elewijt, where you can sit on a terrace and muse over all the beauty you have seen.
Heemkring de Semse wishes you an interesting and beautiful walk.
