Antwerp Commemorates - From the grave
50 to 70 million: that is the number of people who lost their lives in the Second World War according to some estimates. The lives of countless others were thrown into complete disarray.
Here, at the Schoonselhof Cemetery, thousands of people who experienced the devastating conflict lie buried: soldiers who were killed in action and veterans from all over the world, victims of bombardment, resistance fighters and collaborators, survivors of the German concentration and extermination camps, ordinary citizens who lived their lives under German occupation, ...
Some of the graves conceal an especially extraordinary story. Join us to hear their stories as you set out and explore.
This walk was commissioned by the Antwerp municipal authorities, as part of Antwerp Commemorates.
