Straffe women of the Waasland
History books tell hundreds of stories about the extraordinary achievements of men. But women also left their mark on the Waasland region in the past, just as they do today.
At five heritage sites, discover the story of a sturdy woman who had a strong connection with the place, from a noblewoman to a businesswoman. How did these women stand in life? How did they show their sense of initiative? What mountains did they move, and what opportunities did they seize with both hands? It is high time that we register them in the history of the Waasland region.
Straffe vrouwen van het Waasland is a project of the Erfgoedcel Waasland and Toerisme Waasland, in collaboration with the Waas Archievenoverleg, the local authorities of Beveren, Lokeren, Sint-Niklaas and Waasmunster, and the STEM schools VLOT! and weTech.
