Peace and resistance in Ledeberg

Peace and resistance in Ledeberg

During World War II, over 150,000 Belgians were active in the resistance against the Nazi occupiers. Ordinary people who did extraordinary things for our freedom. 15,000 of them paid for this courageous resistance with their lives.

Very inhabitants of Ledeberg were also active in the resistance. In this walk you will get to know some interesting people and places. Among others, you will get to know the couple Petrus and Julia from Langestraat. Julie died of hardship in the Ravensbrück concentration camp. Petrus did not survive torture in the prison of Saint-Gilles. Or August Van Laere, who was executed in Oostakker. Who knows André Desmul? Just next to the Scheldt, there is a little park that popularly bears his name: the André Desmulp Park. In that park there is a memorial that is barely known. And what connection is there between the Ledeberg resistance heroes and the resistance couple Parvaneh and Darius Forouhar in faraway Tehran? So many people, so many stories. For far too long they have been forgotten. With this walk, we want to lift the memory of these heroes from under the dust.

Have fun on the walk! If you have any questions or suggestions: feel free to send an email to dany@heldenvanhetverzet.be
