This route takes you through the landscape that inspired Stijn Streuvels. We will take you to the Landergem ast, which served as the model for Streuvels' novella 'Het leven en de dood in den ast' (Life and Death in the Ast), as well as other highlights from Streuvels' oeuvre.

In Maarkedal, the beautiful Z+walk winds its way along quiet roads, between fields, with magnificent views and delightful spots in the Flemish Ardennes. The route has been equipped with five benches, designed by designers and made by local craftsmen. EVA (Erfgoed Vlaamse Ardennen) has provided three literary texts for each bench.
