Fiertelommegang in Ronse

Fiertelommegang in Ronse

Since the 11th century, the Fiertelommegang has been a historical event and one of the most important events in Ronse. Every first Sunday after Pentecost, the shrine containing the relics of St. Hermes is carried around the city limits by the Fiertel carriers. Tradition has it that anyone within the circle is thus protected from mental illness. Behind the various stops of the Fiertelommegang lies a rich history of rituals, traditions and stories.

This heritage route is a collaboration of master students of History from UGent Sophie Becue and Mies Degroote and Visit Ronse. A big thank you also to the Archives & Heritage Service, Erfgoedbank Vlaamse Ardennen, the Institute for Public History, Ghent University and the Urban Fiertel Committee.
