Fiertelommegang in Ronse

Fiertelommegang in Ronse

Since the 11th century, the Fiertelommegang has been a historic event and one of the most important celebrations in Ronse. Every first Sunday after Pentecost, the shrine containing the relics of Saint Hermes is carried by the Fierteldragers around the city limits. According to tradition, anyone who finds themselves within the circle is protected against mental illness. Behind the various stops along the Fiertelommegang lies a rich history of rituals, traditions, and stories.

This heritage route is a collaboration between UGent History master’s students Sophie Becue and Mies Degroote and Visit Ronse. A big thank you also goes to the Archives & Heritage Department, the Flemish Ardennes Heritage Bank, the Institute for Public History, Ghent University, and the Municipal Fiertel Committee.
