Out and about with Saint Martin in Dendermonde, Hamme, and Zele
Although Saint Martin’s Day is still actively celebrated in our region, traditional elements are fading into the background, and the differences between it and the Sinterklaas celebration are becoming increasingly blurred. Through five Saint Martin’s Day routes, we highlight the customs and places associated with Saint Martin’s Day in our region. These routes are part of the more than 5,000 km long ‘Via Sancti Martini,’ a Cultural Route recognized by Europe.
With this 52 km walking and cycling route, you’ll discover the St. Martin heritage in Dendermonde, Hamme, and Zele. You can start anywhere along the route. The direction is indicated by a combination of the St. Martin sticker and green arrows. This route can be explored on foot or by bike. Want to shorten the route? You can do so near Dendermonde station.
