Antwerp Remembers – 167 days of bombing terror
A month after the liberation, in October 1944, the terror of the V-bombs began. The German military command launched a months-long bombing campaign using so-called “flying bombs.” The anti-aircraft defenses of “Antwerp X” attempted to protect the city and its population. But the toll was high. An estimated 3,000 civilians and 600 Allied soldiers were killed. More than 5,000 people were injured. Large parts of Antwerp lay in ruins.
Use this app to walk past the affected sites and listen to the stories of the people who experienced the bombings. Before you start, you can watch the video at the top.
This walking tour was commissioned by the City of Antwerp as part of Antwerp Remembers.
