The (vanished) past of Schriek

With this bicycle or walking tour you will cross the past of Schriek, a rural district of Heist-op-den-Berg. The full tour is about 20 km long, but you can also choose a shorter version of about 12 km.

The tour starts and ends at the Sint-Jan-Baptist church. From there you discover the typical old-Kempish villages Schriek and Grootlo. You cycle or walk through idyllic nature, past the sights of Schriek and its surroundings. Like the Old Chapel of the hamlet Grootlo, the Warandehoeve and above all the 'remises': these castle farms are the last silent witnesses of the vanished castle of Schriek.

The tour consists almost entirely of paved roads. Only three short sections, totaling 1.8 km, are unpaved sandy stretches. Have fun!
