Paw Printers Tour

The Pootefretters Tour in Haasrode: from a hamlet of Bierbeek to a borough of Oud-Heverlee today.
As early as the Middle Ages, this spot on the edge of the forest—for that is ultimately the meaning of “Haasrode”—held a special allure for hermits and pilgrims, even from as far away as France. The latter made their way to this site to pay their respects to the miraculous statue of the Virgin Mary (1470).
The current Church of Our Lady and the rectory are examples of unique Brabant Neo-Gothic architecture designed by Pieter Langerock, a student of Joris Helleputte. The project was made possible by Duchess Eleonora of Arenberg.
Both world wars also left their mark on this distinctive corner of Flemish Brabant.
Curious about the meaning of ‘Pootefretters’? Come discover this remarkable heritage site and not only enjoy the many unique chapels but also delve into the local ‘giant history’ with its accompanying parades.
