Historical Walk Bombing April 5

Historical Walk Bombing April 5

The American bombing of Mortsel took place on April 5, 1943, and, with 936 fatalities, was the deadliest in Belgium during World War II. Based on the book *Tears over Mortsel*, a historical walking tour through the devastated town of Mortsel was mapped out under the guidance of historian Pieter Serrien and in collaboration with Geheugen Collectief. At 16 locations, stainless steel memorial panels feature brief explanations and testimonies. The walk begins at the missed target, the Erla factory, and ends at the Mortsel village cemetery, where you can view the memorial wall and walk among the commemorative crosses of the victims.

You can find the complete walking route and more information about the bombing and the annual commemoration at www.mortsel.be/5april1943.
