Strong women of Waasland
History books are full of stories about the extraordinary achievements of men. But women also left their mark on the Waasland region in the past, just as they do today.
Discover the story of a remarkable woman who had a strong connection to the place—from a noblewoman to a businesswoman—at five heritage sites. What were these women’s lives like? How did they demonstrate their sense of initiative? What mountains did they move, and what opportunities did they seize with both hands? It is high time we enshrine them in the history of the Waasland.
Strong Women of Waasland is a project of the Waasland Heritage Unit and Waasland Tourism, in collaboration with the Waas Archives Council, the local governments of Beveren, Lokeren, Sint-Niklaas, and Waasmunster, and the STEM schools VLOT! and weTech.
