1,000 soldiers

This walking tour features the song "1 000 Soldiers" by Willem Vermandere. Nine international artists give their interpretation or adaptation of this iconic song. You can listen to them at the grave of a soldier. For example, the French version can be heard at the grave of a French soldier. Also discover the Irish, English, Indian, Arabic, Chinese, German, Italian and Zulu versions. In each case, you get the story behind the gravestone and get to know the musicians behind the song.

This project came about in collaboration with Muzikantenhuis Gent.

A free walking map is available at the visitors' center Lijssenthoek or at Tourism Poperinge, Grote Markt 1.
