1,000 soldiers

This walk is inspired by Willem Vermandere’s song “1,000 Soldiers.” Nine international artists offer their interpretations or arrangements of this iconic song. You can listen to them at a soldier’s grave. For example, the French version can be heard at the grave of a French soldier. Discover the Irish, English, Indian, Arabic, Chinese, German, Italian, and Zulu versions as well. You’ll learn the story behind each headstone and meet the musicians behind the song.

A free walking map is available at the Lijssenthoek visitor center or at Toerisme Poperinge, Grote Markt 1.
