Walking with Charles Pil - Newport

Walking with Charles Pil - Newport

After World War I, Newport was totally destroyed. Rapid reconstruction was necessary. Charles Pil, along with his associate Henri Carbon, played an important role in this reconstruction project. Under the watchful eye of Jozef Viérin, Carbon's brother-in-law, the duo realized many prestigious buildings, most of which are located near the Market Square, such as the iconic Blue House and the imposing Saint Bernard College. Pil and Carbon opted for a historicizing style, inspired by the Flemish Neo-Renaissance and Neo-Gothic.

Get to know the architects Charles Pil and Henri Carbon during this walk and discover their impressive reconstruction architecture in Nieuwpoort.

This route is part of the supra-local project "Charles Pil 1867-1949".
