Walking with Charles Pil - Nieuwpoort

Walking with Charles Pil - Nieuwpoort

After World War I, Nieuwpoort lay in ruins. Rapid reconstruction was essential. Charles Pil, together with his partner Henri Carbon, played a key role in this reconstruction project. Under the watchful eye of Jozef Viérin, Carbon’s brother-in-law, the duo realized many prestigious buildings, most of which are located near the Market Square, such as the iconic Blue House and the imposing St. Bernardus College. Pil and Carbon opted for a historicist style, inspired by the Flemish Neo-Renaissance and Neo-Gothic movements.

During this walk, get to know the architects Charles Pil and Henri Carbon and discover their impressive post-war reconstruction architecture in Nieuwpoort.

This route is part of the supra-local project "Charles Pil 1867-1949".
