Magdalene Walk

This 12.5 km walk connects the Chapel of Mary Magdalene in Vaalbeek with the Sacred Heart Institute of the Annunciates Sisters and Park Abbey in Heverlee. You will learn more about these magnificent pearls of our cultural heritage. You walk through Heverlee forest which has been well preserved thanks to the property of the Croÿs and the Dukes of Arenberg. You also follow the Grezweg that connected Leuven with what later became Walloon Brabant. Along the way, you will discover the role of the former counts and dukes and the influence of Park Abbey in our region. The Chapel of Mary Magdalene is a lasting testimony to Goswijn III who went on crusade in 1217 and asked Park Heverlee Abbey to build a chapel to pray for a safe return.
