It is no coincidence that the Damme polder landscape has been recognized by Flanders as part of the Zwinstreek Landscape Park and by UNESCO as a unique geological site in the Scheldt Delta Geopark.

In this landscape, we still find many traces of forts, lines, and fortifications that we collectively refer to as the State-Spanish lines.
