A quick look at history

A quick look at history

Today, the Zwin is a popular destination for day-trippers, attracting around 200,000 visitors each year who come to admire the region’s natural beauty. But did you know that the Zwin region also has a rich history? Together with a group of history students from Ghent University, we created an interactive walking tour that guides you through the history of the Zwin region using audio clips. The sheep, the tourist, the nature conservationist, and the farmer each share stories about the history of the Zwin from their own perspective. We start in the early Middle Ages and travel through time as we walk, ending up in the 21st century.

This ten-kilometer walk begins at the bus stop on Oosthoekplein in Knokke and follows the final kilometers of the Streek-GR Kust trail. The route continues through the Zwin Nature Park and eventually ends back at Oosthoekplein. Enjoy your walk!
