From canals to bats in Bastion VIII

Today, Bastion VIII is a provincial center for nature and environmental education. But that wasn’t always the case. The site has a rich history.

The name Bastion VIII refers to its historical function as a defensive structure surrounding the city center. Bastion VIII is the eighth of the eleven bastions that once surrounded Dendermonde.

During this tour, you’ll walk through the site from 1830 to the present day. Come on, let’s get going!
