Today, Bastion VIII is a provincial center for nature and environmental education. But that wasn’t always the case. The site has a rich history.
The name Bastion VIII refers to its historical function as a defensive structure surrounding the city center. Bastion VIII is the eighth of the eleven bastions that once surrounded Dendermonde.
