In the footsteps of the resistance

This cycling and walking route introduces you to the extraordinary resistance efforts of ordinary people in Knokke and Heist during World War II. Each stop tells the story of residents who, each in their own way, resisted the occupying forces.
The route traces nine locations, each connected to a figure or event from the local resistance. From clandestine sabotage to the subtle resistance of priests, mayors, and police officers: the route brings to life just how deeply rooted the resistance was in the seaside town.
