About sisters and deaf girls

Here, in 1820, the first school for the deaf in Flanders was founded by the Sisters of Charity of Jesus and Mary. It is also the place where Petrus Triest, the founder of the congregation and of the school lived a large part of his life. Sr. Vincentia, the first headmistress, spent 9 months in Paris before the founding of the school where she was trained in the sign language method.
Visitors will receive information on smartphone or tablet in Flemish Sign Language (VGT) and Dutch, as well as additional photos and videos about the objects on display.
To be visited from mid-November 2019 by appointment through Gandante https://www.gandante.be info@gandante.be
