Berchem Outside The ramparts

A farmer with cows in Berchem, it seems like a fantasy image in today's urban environment. And yet, not even that long ago, much of Berchem outside the ramparts was still agricultural land. Indeed, cows grazed where the apartment buildings of Fruithoflaan now reach for the sky. The blue of flax fields attracted the curious and people bought vegetables, fruits and flowers from Berchem soil here. For these idyllic-looking scenes, we don't even have to go back a full century. We would like to invite you to (re)discover this neighborhood.
