Modern building in Kessel-Lo (1930-1975)

When we talk about real estate heritage, we often think of ancient castles, Romanesque churches, Gothic town halls. But we don't have to go that far back in time at all for remarkable stories and extraordinary architecture. To 20th-century Kessel-Lo is far enough.
The municipality suffered greatly during the two world wars. After the destruction, there was a need for restoration, new buildings and infrastructure. Moreover, the population grew substantially in the 1950s and 1960s, with more work and prosperity, more commuters and cars. Progress steamed our society into a new era. Better building techniques and materials brought creativity, and renowned architects found a field of work in Kessel-Lo. With modernism, they left their mark on neighborhoods, schools, senior housing and sports infrastructure. With architect Victor Bourgeois in the lead.
