On the trail of the resistance

This cycling and walking route introduces you to the extraordinary resistance of ordinary people in Knokke and Heist during World War II. Each stop tells the story of inhabitants who, each in their own way, resisted the occupying forces.
The route follows the trail of nine places, each linked to a figure or event from the local resistance. From clandestine sabotage to the subtle resistance of priests, mayors and policemen, the trail makes tangible how deeply rooted the resistance was in the seaside town.
