Bruges, Guido Gezelle walk
You step from the Gezelle statue into the garden of the Gezelle Museum. The tour through the Bruges of the Flemish poet leads you from the Church of Our Lady along the Walburga parish to the
charming Sint-Annakwartier, where you stroll along delightful canals, picturesque streets and the green outskirts of the city with its windmills.
Guido Gezelles life and work provides material for a fascinating introduction to nineteenth-century Bruges: school life, journalism, the struggle between liberals and Catholics, his commitment as a parish priest to the devotion or Holy Blood and his involvement with the English in Bruges.
All of this is brought to life by unique material from the Guido Gezelle Archives, sound poetry fragments, film clips from the VRT archives, old cityscapes from the City Archives' photo collection and unique music recordings.
