Walking through time: Bachte-Maria-Leerne

The Dein underground has a lot of archaeological potential. In recent years, the archaeological company De Logi & Hoorne conducted three excavations in Bachte-Maria-Leerne. The sites are located a stone's throw from each other and each yielded interesting and surprising finds from different periods. Thus, the archaeologists found a large Bronze Age farmhouse about 3,600 years old, a special Iron Age wooden bowl, an almost complete landscape from the Roman period and not only the early medieval precursor of the village from the 7th-8th century, but also two simultaneous burials.

The city of Deinze, local societies Dunsa and Het Land van Nevele, the IOED Leie Schelde, Cultural Region Leie Schelde and De Logi & Hoorne (with additional sponsorship from crane firm De Pourcq from Astene) joined forces on the occasion of the Archaeology Days 2022 in order to get to know the neighborhood's past.
