White Nete Valley - Back to the future
A walk through the valley of the Witte Nete and its hay meadows, ditches, shrublands, alder woodland... but also remnants of heath and pine forest plantations.
When following the red walk, you will regularly encounter an information board on the Natuurpunt plots. These info signs contain natural history information in the form of a large photograph by Henri Van den Wildenbergh, taken on site in the late 1940s and early 1950s.
This period marks the end of the era that started around 1850. It was then that the traditional Kempen landscape was enriched with "modern" influences through canals, railroads, tramways and brick roads. This without losing what had been there for centuries. During these hundred years, the Kempen had the highest biodiversity to date.
Nature management works are therefore quite often aimed at creating a situation reminiscent of the landscape of the early twentieth century. In other words, if we handle nature management in the Witte Netevallei in a smart way, in the future the landscape should look more and more like the pictures of Henri Van den Wildenbergh...
Furthermore, we have included nature facts in the hike.
With the gray and blue numbers you can access the info in the erfgoedapp.
Look and compare! And enjoy your walk.
