Norbertine Walk

Norbertine Walk

The charming village of Beauvoorde is the starting point for 3 poetic hiking trails ranging from 5 to 17 km. These walking routes on the territory of Beauvoorde, Bulskamp and Houtem connect recreational and cultural objectives and heritage under the project title ' 3 villages 3 walks'. The Norbertine walk over a distance of 12 km is one of the hiker's choices.
Beauvoorde is embedded in a gently sloping landscape, offering southward views over the Ijzervlakte to the West Flemish hills and northward over the flat polder landscape around Bulskamp and Houtem to the belt of dunes. On the paths of the Norbertine walk to Houtem, these panoramas will undoubtedly charm the recreational walker.
The project ' 3 villages 3 walks' introduces walkers to Dutch-language poems to complement the heritage of character and landscape diversity on the walking route.
The name of the walk refers to the listed Houtem presbytery, which was founded centuries ago by the Norbertine monks of the St. Nicholas Abbey of Veurne. The monks found rest on the outside and managed their landed properties there.
